Biomechanics at the Uniklinik Balgrist
The Uniklinik Balgrist embodies the orthopedic division of the University Hospital Zurich. Balgrist hospital has a strong tradition of basic and clinical orthopedic research, and has maintained an active Biomechanics laboratory since 1980.
We are dually affiliated with the ETH Zürich Department of Mechanical Engineering.	Our lab is located in the original Balgrist Hospital building (shown here circa 1900)
The biomechanics laboratory comprises approximately 110 sq. m of lab space and 40 sq. m of office space. We have precision testing equipment for static and dynamic characterization of biomaterials (from cells to organs), and a machine shop.
Our institute, the Orthopedic Research Laboratory, provides us with direct access to cell culture infrastructure, molecular biology tools, histology facilities, and state of the art microscopy resources.
